Artist of the month - Delfts Plaisier

Holland is often synonymous with their beautiful traditions. We are certainly inspired here each day by the Dutch history, the winding canals, the prestigious canal houses and of course what these beautiful houses contained. Back from the Golden Age of the Seventeenth century until today, history has been painted, sketched, photographed and preserved in items such as furniture, artworks and ceramics.

It has been said that the VOC (Dutch East India Company) imported Chinese porcelain in these early days, as they were held in very high regard and were often reserved for the very wealthy. When the supply of these illustrated beauties to Europe was paused, the Dutch were inspired to create their own version of the 'Blue and White' and highly decorated pieces emerged depicting the Dutch lifestyle. Fishing boats, windmills and landscapes became popular scenes and are still thriving today. We know this as Delftware.

One such talented artist called Wilma Plaisier worked for 10 years in the famous and last-remaining Delft pottery factory from the Golden Age, called Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles (better known as Royal Delft) before starting for herself. She now owns the successful Delfts Plaisier where she creates beautiful ceramic pieces such as the recently heralded 'Fragile Fingers' for prestigious client Marcel Wanders

Being florists, we are naturally drawn toward gorgeous vases and we recently came across these one-of-a-kind hand painted creations that are fondly known as 'Butterfly' and 'Ribbon', so we just had to share them with you.
